What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis occurs when the tissue that makes up the uterine lining, or the lining of the womb is present on other organs inside your body, according to UCLA Health. The condition is usually found in the lower abdomen or pelvis but can appear anywhere on the body. According to WebMD, the tissue will still act the way it should during your menstrual cycles, despite the fact that the tissue is outside of your uterus. At the end of your period, the tissue, called endometrium, will break apart and bleed. But the blood has nowhere to go and this can cause a number of issues.
Endometriosis Symptoms Include
- Scars and lesions can develop in the surrounding area.
- Pelvic pain
- Pain during intercourse
- Painful bowel movements
- Bloating
- Constipation
- Blood in urine
- Painful urination.
Chiropractic and Endometriosis
According to the British website Women’s Health Information, chiropractic can be helpful in the treatment of endometriosis because there’s a strong relationship between the location of the spinal cord and the location of reproductive organs. Chiropractic care can help restore proper peristaltic motion. This is the muscular function responsible for the autonomous nervous system and its particularly linked to the proper functioning of the uterus. It enables eggs to travel down the fallopian tube. Endometriosis blocks peristaltic motion but studies have shown that chiropractic care can restore this motion increasing the chances of fertility.
