Chiropractic Care
Total Chiropractic Care and Wellness offers holistic, state-of-the-art care, utilizing the most advanced techniques available. Chiropractic care can treat injuries, remediate joint and muscle dysfunction, and manage chronic pain without using potentially addictive drugs. It can help patients achieve health and wellness, and even prevent future injuries. We provide advanced chiropractic adjustments and spinal correction using processes that are safer, more effective, and more comfortable than ever.
Total Chiro’s Dr. Todd Goldman, author of “Taking Control: An Informed Guide About How to Be Your Own Healthcare Advocate,” has nearly three decades of experience treating back and neck pain, headaches, and other spinal conditions. He is an expert at treating injuries resulting from automobile accidents and other types of accident injuries.
In addition to traditional spinal adjustments, Total Chiropractic Care and Wellness offers a full range of therapies and treatments including spinal decompression, massage therapy, trigger point therapy, Magnesphere therapy, cold laser therapy, epidural treatments, and physical therapy. We also offer lifestyle, exercise, nutritional counseling, spinal screenings, and CDL physicals.
We have included the information below about the different chiropractic services offered in our Medford chiropractic office, but please call us at (631) 447-2299 if you have any questions!
Car Accident Injury Treatment
Automobile accidents are among the most common reasons for seeking chiropractic care. Even a minor fender-bender can cause whiplash, herniated discs, and other injuries.
Dr. Goldman specializes in caring for patients with car accident injuries. He gives every patient a thorough evaluation and provides a treatment plan, referring them to a specialist if necessary. Dr. Goldman advises potential patients to seek a hospital examination as soon as possible after an accident and to seek chiropractic care upon release.
Total Chiro offers a wide variety of treatments to address injuries stemming from car accidents. These include spinal manipulation, trigger point therapy, corrective exercises, lifestyle and ergonomic advice, relaxation therapy, physical therapy, muscle stimulation therapy, massage therapy, and more.
Other Accident Injuries
Whether from a work-related incident, a sports injury, a slip and fall, or another type of accident, Total Chiro can assess injuries and help patients decide on the best course of safe, minimally-invasive, cost-effective treatment. We treat sprains; strains; joint dislocations; arm, back, neck, and hand pain; carpal tunnel syndrome, and other accident or strain-related issues.
Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression is a traction-based treatment that gently stretches the spine, relieving pressure on discs and nerves. This pressure can stem from an injury or normal wear and tear on the spine, causing pain, tingling, and numbness. Relieving the pressure helps to ease these symptoms. Spinal decompression also promotes the flow of oxygen and fluids into spinal structures, improving their health and ability to heal. It can help herniated or bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, sciatica, facet syndrome, and tingling or numbness in the hands or feet.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself without the use of medication. This safe and effective holistic form of pain management can maintain optimal health by relieving stress and improving circulation. Other benefits may include lowered heart rate and blood pressure, improved immune function, and increased energy.
Total Chiro offers several forms of massage therapy, including trigger point therapy, Swedish massage therapy, and hydro massage therapy. Trigger point therapy involves the use of isolated pressure in specific areas to release knotted muscles. Swedish massage uses kneading, tapping, friction, sliding, and vibration to apply pressure on areas of concern. It can relieve stress, reduce joint stiffness, and drain lymph glands. Hydro massage therapy uses constant, targeted streams of water to release muscle pain and tension and to increase circulation.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger point therapy relieves chronic muscular pain by loosening spasming or “knotted” muscles and tight fascia. When touched, a trigger point may be uncomfortable, sore, painful, tight, or tender. Trigger points can cause muscle shortening, leading to a limited range of motion in the impacted area or to referred pain felt in a different location when the trigger point is touched.
When trigger points are released, either manually or with needles or other tools, blood flow returns to constricted muscles or fascia, and symptoms abate. It is a quick, non-invasive procedure that typically shows immediate results. Trigger point therapy is useful after accidents, misuse, or overuse, and for misalignment, disc problems, and spine issues. It is especially effective for shoulder pain, tennis elbow, chest wall muscular pain, upper or lower back pain, sciatica, knee pain, or ankle pain.
Magnesphere Therapy
Magnesphere, or magnetic resonance therapy, uses low-level magnetic fields to rebalance the patient’s autonomic nervous system (ANS). This helps switch off the fight-or-flight response that contributes to chronic stress, which in turn wreaks havoc on the body. Magnesphere therapy restores balance to the nervous system, reducing symptoms associated with chronic stress like inflammation, pain, low energy, weight gain, mood swings, poor sleep, and digestive issues. Magnesphere’s “enhancing relaxation” claim is backed by the FDA.
Cold Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy is a form of non-invasive low-level light therapy (LLLT) using infrared light to stimulate cell function. This safe, quick, and painless treatment utilizes a hand-held device applied directly to the injured or painful area of the body. Treatment reduces swelling and repairs tissues by allowing oxygen and nutrients to enter cells and improve their health. Cold therapy also makes cells more permeable, allowing them to release wastes and toxins. Cold laser therapy may be used to treat arthritis, muscle spasms, back pain, neck pain, knee pain, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, sprains or ligament pain, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, or temporomandibular jaw disorder (TMJ).
Epidural Treatment
Epidural spinal injection uses a hypodermic needle to deliver medication directly to the source of back or neck pain, typically caused by inflamed spinal nerves. Steroid medication, compounded with an anesthetic, diminishes inflammation and discomfort, dulling pain experienced in the affected area. Epidural treatment is especially effective for spinal stenosis or a herniated disc. It can help to reduce back pain and decrease or eliminate muscle weakness in the legs, buttocks, or hips. The process takes approximately 30 minutes, and the patient is monitored for up to an hour afterward. Results may not be permanent but can last for months.
Physical Therapy
When an injury or medical condition impacts mobility or functionality, physical therapy can help patients get back to normal. Where chiropractic treatment addresses the cause of the injury, physical therapy treats its symptoms, such as pain, stiffness, or limited range of motion. Total Chiropractic Care and Wellness offers physical therapy as a complement to chiropractic treatment, providing full recovery services. Physical therapy can decrease or eliminate pain; help patients avoid surgery; improve mobility and balance; aid in stroke recovery; prevent sports injuries; treat diabetic and vascular conditions, and help to manage heart and lung conditions.
Lifestyle Advice
Total Chiro views each patient as a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach wellness and total health. Lifestyle coaching encourages better habits to ensure the best outcomes. Through recommendations on a combination of diet, exercise, sleep, chiropractic treatments, physical therapy, proper lifting, and movement techniques, the goal is to manage pain as a first line of defense and to avoid surgery and medications whenever possible. Additional benefits of a balanced life include faster healing and an improvement in overall health. Some conditions that can be addressed with lifestyle coaching include aging, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, obesity, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.
Corrective Chiropractic Exercises
As part of our holistic approach to care, we teach our patients “blueprint” corrective exercises to strengthen and correct irregularities in their bodies that may cause pain. Targeted stretches and corrective exercises align the skeletal structure, address muscles and connective tissues that are out of place, and complement an overall chiropractic care plan. Corrective exercises can also be effective in managing neck pain, back pain, and headaches.
Nutritional Counseling
Good nutrition is essential for optimal health. Total Chiro offers counseling on healthy food choices and nutritional supplements to help patients achieve total health and balance within their body. We can provide a structured nutritional program based on one’s individual needs and offer recommendations for nutritional supplements.
Spinal and Postural Screenings
Postural and spinal screenings are used to locate stress points and misalignments within the body. These screenings reveal a wealth of information, pinpointing causes of pain and discomfort, and unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. Total Chiro provides spinal and postural screenings throughout the community, at health fairs, workplaces, and events. Contact us at (631) 447-2299 to have a screening in our office or arrange a screening at your event or workplace.
New York State DOT Physical Exams For CDL
Total Chiro offers physical examinations for commercial driver’s license (CDL) drivers. These exams are required by the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) to ensure CDL candidates or license holders are healthy enough to drive. We are an approved medical examiner and will fill out the required forms, after which an approved certificate will be valid from three months to two years, depending on the patient’s medical history.
