About The Patriot Project
The Patriot Project, whose home base is in North Canton, Ohio, is a grassroots movement founded by Dr. Timothy P. Novelli. Having been moved by the experience of extending chiropractic care to more than 150 Wounded Warriors, Dr. Novelli founded the Patriot Project soon after.
The lofty goals are expressed in the official Mission Statement as listed on the organization’s website:
- To provide chiropractic care to active military, their families, wounded warriors, and Gold Star Dependents.
- To make full chiropractic benefits in TRICARE care readily available for ALL active duty military, retirees, and veterans.
- To have chiropractic physicians commissioned as officers in all armed services.
- To have chiropractic physicians embedded in all forward operating bases of combat.
- To have a Chiropractic Department in every VA hospital and clinic.
- To educate veterans with service-related disabilities; they have chiropractic benefit coverage through the Veterans Administration.
The most current participation data available is from 2016 and lists 6,000 chiropractors across 50 states with a positive projection for the future.
Veteran Issues and Chiropractic Services
Currently, the health benefits of active military and veterans may include chiropractic services, but it is not widely known or readily available to many and therefore is an underutilized service.
Growing evidence supports a medical treatment plan to incorporate chiropractic care. A recent 2018 study supports and recommends the addition of chiropractic care to usual medical care for maximum benefit to lower back pain. The clinical trial was held among active-duty U.S. military personnel.
Unfortunately, a great number of veterans commit suicide every year. A significant number of those suicides are drug-related. Many ‘usual’ medical practices for issues facing active and former military members recommend surgery or drug-based treatments. Chiropractic care offers a non-surgical, drug-free treatment options.
The Patriot Project also is advocating for chiropractors to be embedded within all forward operating bases of combat.
How US Chiropractors Are Helping Veterans
The Patriot Project initiative asks chiropractors to provide free services to 1 qualified military person per week. Along with the care of the person, the chiropractors are asked to document cases and submit testimonials. These submissions are an important part of the pledge as they will be used to further the cause in Congress.
Some Services That Chiropractors May Provide:
- Patient education
- Active rehabilitation
- Spinal manipulation
- Other manual therapies
- Acupuncture
- Other novel therapies as non-pharmacologic options.

Total Chiropractic Care and Wellness recently pledged support for The Patriot Project. Dr. Goldman and his friendly, knowledgeable staff have been providing services to local Long Island active military, wounded warriors, veterans, and their families for years. Both companies’ goals complement each other, and the decision to support the organization makes perfect sense.
