Back pain is something that eventually affects all of us to varying degrees. We can start experiencing increases in back pain as early as in our 30’s, as late as into our 60’s or older. Either way, if you get old enough, it’s nearly impossible to avoid.
There are more factors to back pain beyond age, however.
Other Common Factors of Back Pain
- Physical fitness levels
- Posture
- Physically demanding lifestyles
- Mental health.
Although these are substantial factors to back pain, this doesn’t include all causes. So, is there a connection between gender and low back pain?
Is Lower Back Pain Related to Hormones?
It’s possible you may not have even considered this before, but there is evidence to suggest that chronic lower back pain can be related to hormones. While some studies have been inconclusive in the past, some recent studies have shown a correlation between higher levels of estrogen in the body related to post-pregnancy, birth control pills, and other medications and supplements for lower back pain.
Can Ovarian Cysts Cause Back Pain?
Though the presence of ovarian cysts doesn’t automatically mean you’ll experience lower back pain, they can trigger dull, chronic lower back pain. In most cases, ovarian cysts cause bloating and discomfort unrelated to back pain. They occur naturally in people who experience menstrual cycles and are not usually cause for concern. It’s possible they can occur more often as a result of excess estrogen in the body. Because of this, it could be that the lower back pain you’re experiencing is related to an increase in ovarian cysts from the extra estrogen production.
Can Chiropractic Adjustments Help with Menstrual Pain?
Some studies have shown that chiropractic care, including spinal adjustments and soft tissue treatment, can help mitigate dysmenorrhea, the painful cramps related to menstruation. There are a few reasons why this could be, including how chiropractic care can help stimulate better blood circulation. That said, chiropractic care has not been shown to decrease the length of a client’s menstrual cycle.
